about

When we recorded CTFOF, we had a big debate going amongst ourselves as to whether or not this song needed to be on the record. Rob wasn't a fan of it, and when we had all made our final lists of "Record songs," all five members of the band had included this song on their personal list...we all thought it was a shoe-in! However, Rob convinced us that we needed another ballad-y type song, and there's your explanation for how "How Have We Come This Far?" ended up on the record. Don't get me wrong, that song did have some good parts in it and wasn't a terrible song, but we always talked about how we wished that we'd put "Confirmation..." on the record instead. After all, we were a "rock band." What rock band needs a bunch of ballads on their record?!?
(answer: EVERY rock band needs a couple of good ballads.)

Dave wrote most of the lyrics to this song...and almost all of the music and melodies to every Wavorly song ever. Dave has always been the "essence" of Wavorly....that's why we and almost every band we toured with call him Davorly. Without Dave, there would have been no Wavorly. There would have been no freshmen15. There would have been no me in the band, because Dave taught me how to play bass. And honestly, there probably wouldn't be a best friend in my life, because that's what he's been since we buddied up on orientation day at Northeast Community College way back in the fall of 2001. The formation of our friendship was a lot like that part in "Step Brothers" where Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly's characters realize they love exactly the same things and are therefore instantly best friends. There are few days that go by that we don't chat about something, be it texting or hanging out. Dave is my best friend. That's about all I have to say about that.

lyrics

Is it all so simple?
You speak, I believe it's true.
Could this hole get any deeper,
where I assume I'm apart from you?
If this real why can't I feel the way that I used to?
These bloody knees, they don't change a thing.
Your salvation feels far away.
But as the fog fades,
then I catch a glimpse of hope.

Someday we'll know
the point of all the struggle.
With pain we grow,
to fight the things that drag us down.

I'm exhausted with this burden I carry.
If it's not soon lifted, its
myself I'll bury.
If you can find what the problem is,
I need, need a break from it.
How many times will I try to fix this
'til the point comes across and I
seek forgiveness?

Someday we'll know
the point of all the struggle.
With pain we grow,
to fight the things that drag us down.

Your love is more than a feeling,
your love is more than a feeling.
Feeling, feeling.

I try to find some peace of mind, but
I can't reach out and take what's mine.
You breathe and then my soul is light,
confirmation brings us sleep at night.

Someday, we'll know...someday.
With pain we grow...with pain.

Someday we'll know
the point of all the struggle.
With pain we grow,
to fight the things that drag us down.
How many times will I try to fix this
'til the point comes across and I
seek forgiveness?
